I love pizza. I mean, like really love, it. I could eat pizza multiple times per week for several different meals a day. That would be expensive though and you all know that I’m cheap thrifty. So, to satisfy my craving and my need to save money, I finally gave in to the idea of homemade pizza.
I started with this Homemade Pizza Dough recipe. It turned out great. My hubby usually doesn’t like any kind of homemade crust, but he gave this two thumbs up. The fact that my bread machine did all the work is just an extra plus.
Because hubby & my parents (who joined us for pizza night) prefer supreme pizza, but I’m more of a pepperoni type gal, I made two pizzas. I have made my own red sauce before, but with Bella on the way, I had stocked a few cans of Prego simply for convenience.
Supreme Pizza Ingredients
- Red sauce
- Pepperoni
- Sausage
- Green peppers
- Onions
- Mushrooms
- Olives
- Shredded cheese
Pepperoni Pizza Ingredients
- Red Sauce
- Pepperoni
- Shredded cheese
My husband was concerned that the cost savings wouldn’t be worth the effort. In total, I spent around an hour on prep work. I made two large pizzas, which fed 4 adults and 1 toddler with leftovers for the next day. My final cost came in at right under $11! Considering that we usually spend around $30 – $35 on take-out pizza, I’d say it was completely worth it. It tasted fabulous, was much less greasy, and cost less.
To save time in the future, I plan to keep chopped peppers and onions in the freezer and to make a double batch of dough, stocking one away in the freezer for the next pizza night.
Overall, homemade pizza was a success and it will now be a regular menu item in our household.
>Your pizza looks like it came out great! I love making homemade pizza.

>That looks so yummy. I worked in a pizza joint for 5 years while putting myself through nursing school, and was flat broke, so I did eat pizza several times a week for several different meals… and I still love pizza. Yum.
>We love making homemade pizza. One of our favorites is pesto, chicken and mozz. cheese.
>I saw the word homemade pizza and you had me. I love experimenting with different toppings when I am at home. Salmon and tuna was pretty good. A white sauce with spinach and some shredded cheese was yummy. Though I don't have a bread machine so let's just say my first experience with homemade dough did not turn out as great but still good:)
>I am making pizza tonight with onions and green peppers! Yum. I cheated a little though because I bought the pizza dough from the shop. I usually by the pre-made crusts, so this is new for me. Can't wait to try it with the dough!
>These look soooooo good. I attempted homemade pizza once and my kids wouldn't touch it. 🙁
