If you were to open our cup cabinet right now, you’d find several Playtex brand sippy cups. I’ve tried many brands, but the brand I always come back to is Playtex. They’re convenient, because I can pick them up at almost any local store and they do not leak. When asked if we’d like to try out their newest cup, I had to say yes.
The Playtex First Lil’ Gripper™ Straw Trainer Cup is the perfect cup for transitioning from a bottle to a cup. It’s the first squeezable straw trainer cup on the market. It was designed to help moms teach their babies how to suck and drink from a straw.
Squeezing Feature:
- This sturdy cup can be squeezed by an adult to help push the liquid up, allowing the child to learn to suck the liquid more easily.
- The squeezing feature is such that a parent can squeeze, but a child could not easily do so.
Easy to Use:
- Simple for a child to drink from, while allowing Mom to easily train and track her child’s development.
- Ergonomically designed with easy grip handles for little hand.
- Equipped with the Playtex Twist ‘n Click Leak-Proof Guaranteed seal technology.
- Features a slider to keep the straw clean when not in use.
Since Bryson already drinks from a cup, we weren’t able to put this to the transition test. In all honesty, I’m not one for straw cups. We’ve never tried one that didn’t leak at one point or another. Bryson is rough and tough, so that is no surprise. We haven’t had any major leaks from this cup, but Bryson has managed to spill a bit of liquid once. I think it was trapped in the straw, so it came out when he turned it upside down. For him, I much prefer the other Playtex cups, like the Insulator, but I have put this one away for Bella.
There are a couple things that I really like about the Playtex First Lil’ Gripper™ Straw Trainer Cup. It’s dishwasher safe, BPA free, and Phthalate free. Those are all absolute musts in our household. There are only a couple pieces, so disassembly is super easy and it cleans well. It offered in fun colors like purple, blue, green, and pink. I think my favorite thing is that the lid is interchangeable. We have so many Playtex brand cups, so it’s nice to know that I could just pop any of our other lids on this cup. You can’t go wrong, because if you aren’t fully satisfied, they’ll give you your money back or a similar product.
We’ll be able to use this cup with Bella in a few months, so I’ll keep y’all updated on how the transition from boob to cup goes, since she doesn’t take bottles.
The The First Lil’ Gripper™ Straw Trainer Cup is available for $5.99 at mass market retailers including Babies ‘R Us and Wal-Mart.
We received the mentioned products to assist with a review, but no other compensation was provided. All opinions remain my own.

>My cabinet is full of the Playtex® Sipster® Spout Cups… those have been the most used with both my kids so far. But my toddler LOVES to get his hands on his brother cups that have straws, so I bet he would like this new one! heyjade[at]gmail
