For the most part, I’m just not one of those people that keep things just because they are sentimental. I refuse to be surrounded by things I don’t like just because they were Uncle Leroy’s or because Aunt Susie gave them to me. I want be head over heels for my home and the things that fill it. I want to look around and smile.
There are a few, very few, items in my house that are sentimental to me. One of those things is our kitchen table and benches. My uncle who passed away two weeks ago built the set for my parents when they were married. So, the set is around 27 years old. I’ve looked at new dining room sets, but I could just never part with this one. I am definitely going to revamp it and paint it.
My plan is to paint the table legs white, re-stain the top a darker color, then have new benches built with storage. Our kitchen and dining room are one single room, so I’m always looking for ways to add more storage. I’ll probably find somewhere to use the existing benches or my dad will take them for his shop.
My folks currently have a round dining table in their house, but the shape doesn’t work in their kitchen dining nook. We’ve dealt with it for years, but everyone is finally totally tired of bumping in the the backdoor, the chairs, and each other. We eat dinner over there weekly, so I’ll be glad to have more room. They’ve been looking at home pub sets, because the square shape will be a much better fit.
I’ll be taking before photos of our dining set soon and will hopefully have some after shots before the end of summer.
