Learning to Take Care of Mama

I haven’t been very friendly to my skin.  I’ve purposely spent time in the sun without sunscreen, laid in the tanning bed, and smoked cigarettes.  Yeah, I’d say I haven’t treated it too well.  I cringe when I think about the damage I’ve probably done over the past 20 years.

It’s funny how kids truly do change everything.  In some ways, I’ve let myself go.  I don’t color my hair or get my eyebrows waxed as often as I did pre-kids.  In other way, my kids have encouraged me to take better care of myself.  I want to be here for them every step of the way and to watch them grow up.

For those reasons, I’ll wear my pasty skin with pride.  You won’t find me trying to achieve a natural tan and I’ve thrown down the cigarettes too.  I don’t know if the damage I’ve done can be repaired, but I think it isn’t too early to start an anti aging skincare routine.  Lord knows if I can quit smoking cold turkey, I can surely take care of my skin!

One thing that turns me off to most skin care products is that I cannot pronounce the ingredients.  I’m not a health nut or 100% organic, but I don’t see how putting chemicals on my face can be good for it.  I’d much prefer to stick to more natural ingredients like shea butter.  I love it when companies clearly list the ingredients and I can easily pronounce each one without getting tongue tied.

Do you read labels before buying?  Can you pronounce the ingredient list of your facial cleanser?
