Lemon Play Dough Recipe

For our first week of preschool, we are focusing on the letter L.  I told the kids I would make a batch of homemade play dough and decided to add a new lemon play dough to our line up since it’s L week.  Bryson and Bella love play dough and it’s rare that we don’t have a big batch ready for play.  I love to listen to their conversations as their imaginations take off while playing with play dough and cookie cutters.  It’s great for imaginative play and their fine motor skills and well, it’s just fun.  I’m going to try to come up with new recipes to match most of weekly themes and we’ll continue using our old favorites like Koolaid play dough and apple pie play dough.

To create the lemon play dough, I used our basic play dough recipe then added lemon extract and yellow food color.  For texture, you can add some lemon zest to enhance the sensory experience.  As always, we bring out rolling pins, stamping cubes (both from the Melissa & Dough Shape, Model, & Mold Kit) and cookie cutters for play dough play.  The 101 piece Wilton cookie cutter set is perfect for kids because it includes letters, numbers, animals- something for every theme and they are plastic so you don’t have to worry about sharp edges.  We’ve used this set for about 3 years now!
