The books for babies and toddlers featured in this post were provided by DK Publishing. All thoughts and opinions remain my own, as always.
I think reading to kids is is one of the most important and beneficial things you can do for them during those first few years. Well before we planned to homeschool, we read to Bryson and Bella as babies. Now, we have hundred of books for babies and toddlers on up through preschool and we recently began attending story-time at our local library.
When I received the books for babies and toddlers in this post, I knew that I had to share them with you all. We love receiving books as gifts so I think these would be perfect for a baby shower! You’ll notice that each books allows little ones to touch and feel as they flip through and that creates a wonderful sensory experience. Each board book is sturdy and well made- perfect for babies who will inevitably find a way to introduce the books to their mouth. Bella (2.5) loves all of these books and asks for one each night as she drifts off to sleep. She has the Sophie books memorized and can “read” them to me.
Feel & Find Fun: Baby Animals
Whether it’s a kitten with a shiny foil collar, a puppy with soft fur, safari baby animals with patterned coats, or farm animals in sticky mud, toddlers will love using the large textured tabs to find the corresponding tactile pictures in this touch-and-feel book.
Next up are two books featuring the popular Sophie the Giraffe teether toy. These are Bella’s current favorite books and we’ve never even owned a Sophie toy. I can see these Sophie the giraffe books (there are 2 other Sophie books not pictured, so a total of 4 available) paired with the teething toy wrapped in a pretty gift basket for a new mama.
Sophie La Girafe: Peekaboo Sophie!
With fun flaps that open to reveal colorful pictures of Sophie la girafe and her friends, Peekaboo! Sophie la girafe: Peekaboo Sophie! invites children to their favorite game of peekaboo with their favorite toy.
Featuring simple text that encourages parent-child interaction, baby-appropriate touch-and-feel elements, and large appealing flaps for little hands to flip, this volume is a great opportunity to introduce babies to books, and to develop imagination, thinking, and memory skills.
Sophie’s Busy Day
Baby Touch and Feel: Sophie la girafe: Sophie’s Busy Day is an engaging touch-and-feel introduction to the world of Sophie la girafe.
Babies will love exploring and discovering different textures — from bumpy, scaly, sticky, and shiny — as Sophie la girafe interacts with them on the page, making this a perfect way for encouraging tiny fingers to explore and young minds to develop.
What are some of your favorite books for babies and toddlers? Do you give books as a gift for baby?
We love the Sandra Boynton books and the accompanying CD’s!
I had no clue they made sophie books!! I want them now!
I try to read to my grandkids every time I am with them. Books are so important for the development of a child and the love of reading should be encouraged. I love the Sandra Boynton books

I give books as gifts a lot!! Kids don’t always appreciate them, so I often give a toy as well. I have no idea how many books are in our home. Each kid has a few in there room and, I just realized, there are probably books in every room, even stored in the garage! Everything from baby books to college textbooks to “Paintings in the Louvre” I adore the textured books for smaller kids; I am sure Brynlee will love books as much as the other two do.
