Frugal Friday- $5 Back Yard Fun

I always browse the clearance aisle at Wal Mart. I rarely find anything, but I look just in case. A few weeks ago, Justin & I came across kiddie pools for $5. We bought two, one was originally $9.97 and the other was originally $14.98, so they were very good deals. Each one has a shade over the top, so we can keep Bryson protected from the sun.

At the end of last summer, browsing that same clearance aisle, I happened to find 2 packs of Huggies Little Swimmers for about $3 a pack! I was only about 4 or 5 months pregnant, but I picked them up anyways. Luckily they fit Bryson perfectly now and should fit him throughout the summer.

Bryson loves a bath, so we couldn’t wait to get him in the pool. Justin blew one up and filled it with water. We sprayed Bryson down with sunscreen and let him go swimming. He absolutely loved it and we definitely loved watching him splash around. He played for a long while, then he was so hungry and so tired. I learned that swimming leads to very good naps!

A $5 pool made some wonderful memories of Bryson’s first “swim” and a great day outdoors enjoying the sunshine!

  • >Such cute photos, and you’re right: it’s always fun to watch little ones play in water.

I love to browse the clearance aisles. The key is not to buy anything that we don’t really need! (Am I the only one who gets annoyed by “clearance” items that are only marked at 10 percent off the original price?)

  • >Melissa,

I notice those “clearance” items too. Regular $9.97, but you can have it for the “clearance” price of $9.00. WOW! Those always crack me up.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • >THat’s great! I love clearance items 🙂 I save sooo much money at the grocery store by hitting the close to sale by date items. I also hit it big with a coupon for Green Works and our store was doing a close out. Got the dish soap for 86 cents (tax included!)

  • >Such a cutie! I love getting a good deal in the clearance aisle. That’s usually the first place I hit when I go somewhere. LOL

  • >Great deal! I was just saying that I need one of those pools for my 1 year old when we go camping at the river next month. Off to Wal-Mart I go. Hopefully I’ll have the same luck. Thanks for stopping by my blog, good luck with the scrapbooking!!! My downfall is QVC. Great stuff at great prices.

  • >I love the clearance item shelves in shops! The pool was a great deal and he looks as if he is loving it. The first two pictures are so adorable, what a cutie 🙂
