If you are a local reader, I know that you are going to understand this post. My Facebook wall has been eaten up with photography contests lately. If you refer “x” amount of friends, you’ll get a free shoot. Sounds great, right?
It would be, if it were a legitimate photographer. Instead, it’s people that own a DSLR camera and think that alone makes them a professional photographer. Well, I’m here to tell you that it takes a lot more than a nice camera and photo editing programs to produce quality photos. If that was all it took, we could all be amazing photographers, huh?
I even saw one gal offer “unlimited time, unlimited outfit changes, and your photos on a disk” for $20. I wonder if she realizes after the time she puts into that, she’d be making less than minimum wage? That alone should tell you to stay away. A quick glance at her portfolio confirmed that she has no idea what she’s doing. Photography is so much more than using a photo editor. And while I’m ranting, you can’t just blur everything and call it good. If you are going to use an editing program, actually learn HOW to use it at the very least.
I am by no means a professional photographer. I don’t claim to be one and I don’t play one of TV. I’m just tired of seeing people try to play as one on Facebook.
So, my question is: Do you see this on your Facebook too? Or is it only the happening thing in my hick town?
