I know that I’ve said it almost every post lately, but I’m going to say it again. There is just something about age 2. I never, ever thought I would love toddlerhood like this. Watching Bryson take in the world around him, watching him explore, answering his questions, seeing his little mind ticking away with ideas- he amazes me everyday.
We’ve started a little bit of learning lately. Bryson thinks we are simply playing or coloring, of course, and that’s just the way I want it. I want him to learn through his every day activities. I want him to have a love of learning that doesn’t burn out.
One of our newest play/ learning time activities revolves around the kitchen table and is something you need if you have a messy toddler. It’s the Alphabet Animals Placemat by modern-twist. At meal time, it’s cool placemat that your child will enjoying using and you’ll be glad it keeps your table clean and easily washes off. Any other time, it’s a dry erase mat that can help teach your child the alphabet and an animal for each corresponding letter.
I’m going to tell on myself here and admit that I didn’t know a few of these animals. Seriously. I waited on my husband to get home from work so he could help me out and the letter “U” had both of us stumped. I told my husband I would “Google” it and he wondered aloud how I was going to search for something like that. So, I searched for “round animal that starts with letter U” and there it was- sea urchin! After my husband applauded my Google skills, we both felt a bit silly for not knowing that to begin with.. *ahem*
I like that this has different animals and not the same ones you see on every alphabet chart around. There were 7 animals that I had never introduced Bryson to and he enjoyed learning about them.
I’ve had no problem getting the markers off the placemat so far. I’ve found that a wet cloth and a little bit of elbow grease gets the job done.
