I am a firm believer in reading to your children. Even if that means you read the same books over and over again. We have hundreds of book and I try to read through them all at one point or another, but Bryson certainly has his favorites. Our bedtime routine always includes at least one book, but sometimes we read two or three. Here are our top 5 favorite bedtime books, in no certain order.
God Gave Us You – Mama Bear and Little Cub always have the sweetest conversations, but this book is one of the best. I love that it reminds the parent and the child just how special they are and how God made them for each other.
If Animals Kissed Good Night – This is Bryson’s favorite. He LOVES this one and asks to read it during the day and at night. The pictures are beautiful, the story is sweet, and it is the perfect bedtime book.
The Runaway Bunny – This one simply melts my heart. One of the most beautiful books ever written, in my humble opinion. I’m so glad that Bryson asks for it often, but it gives me a sweet, lifted spirit to tuck him in with this book.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar – It’s no surprise that this one made our list. Bryson loves to talk about the “hat-a-pillar” and point out each thing that it eats.
Three Little Pigs – I remember asking my dad to tell me this story over and over when I was little. At 3, Bryson knows the story from memory and I know it by heart. This classic story is one that I’m glad to pass down to Bryson and I hope he keeps these memories tucked away like I have.
I love reading to my kids too – it’s one of my favorite things about being a mom!
We love the Hungry Caterpillar!
We love reading books at our house too. God Gave Us You is in our collection and has been read a hundred times. Thanks for sharing your favorites.

Hungry Caterpillar is great and both my boys love it! I hadn’t heard of “God Gave Us You” but will definitely check it out. Our boys are 3 and 1 and we read to them every night. It’s the perfect ending to our day and is so good for them. My 3 year old loves trains so “Freight Train” is always in the mix. One of more recent additions is book titled “Chowder” and the main character is an English Bulldog. It’s super cute!
Haven’t heard of If Animals Kissed Goodnight but I LOVE the others so I need to check that one out.
I still haven’t read some of these, thanks!
