When we purchased our house in August of 2009, we knew it needed a lot of TLC. Six months after we purchased it, we finally moved into it. We remodeled the entire inside of the house- new doors, floors, sheetrock, countertops, bathtub, etc. The cabinets are the only thing we didn’t replace. We put all of our time, effort, and money into making our home look beautiful- on the inside.
The outside? Well, it isn’t so pretty. We did start to work on it last summer by changing the color of our foundation. At one point of another, previous homeowners decided that puke green would be the perfect color for the foundation. We disagreed and making that one change instantly made the outside look a little better. A little. We have a long way to go still.
We are currently in the process of updating our central heating and air unit. When that is finished, we hope to install all new windows. Our house desperately needs new windows- not only do they look terrible, but you can feel the air coming in around them. Also on the agenda is painting our doors which should have been done long ago. I haven’t decided on a color yet, but at this point, almost any color will be better than their current state.
Over time, we’ll continue working on our back yard. Our current deck is in bad shape and needs to be ripped up. I’d love to replace it with composite decking. Since losing Tucker, we’ve made the decision that fencing will go up in the back yard before we ever have another dog. I love the look of composite fencing and that it eliminates the upkeep of painting or staining. It looks so much nicer than regular fencing and would add privacy to our back yard. We would be able to let our dog out without the fear of something happening again too.
This summer our focus is on new windows, sprucing up the doors, and planting some trees.
Do you have plans to work on this house this summer? Or are we just crazy for constantly finding something to do and update?
love your wall collage, i totally need to redo mine, i need more concrete lines like yours
Thanks! My collage is actually a frame from Red Envelope and it is one of my favorite things ever. It’s so simple to change the photos out & like you mentioned, it give you defined, concrete lines.
We always have a project. Our spring project is redoing our screens. We need new windows but that isn’t in the budget but we can replace the screens ourseleves so we will have to work on that so we can save on the AC bill by opening the windows up without letting all of the bugs in!
We are actually going to use our tax return to purchase all new windows. We paid everything off last year, so I’m excited to have that money to invest free & clear in our home this year. Good luck with your new screens!
Wow, that looks like 10,000X better. You guys are rock stars at remodeling!
Thanks, Cat! I just realized my top photo wasn’t loading- not sure why. The remodel took a lot of time because we did it all ourselves, but was totally worth it.
I love home improvement stuff. We are in a constant state of fixing up something is seems LOL
LOVE the “Afters” – that is something to be SO proud of!
Your home is so beautiful! You’ve made some MAJOR progress and the changes are so impressive!
We redid the counter tops in the kitchen last fall, so we are saving to get the new cabinets now. This spring, JB is working on building a pergula for the deck.
Thanks for sharing your redos. I love seeing the before and after pics. You’ve definitely inspired me to do some home interior decorating this year!
