I still have piles of books from when I was a kid. I was very protective with my things and most of them are in excellent condition. Now, I read those same books to Bryson and it’s so fun to open them and see where I scribbled my name and phone number inside the front cover. Maybe so someone could give me a call if I ever lost the book?
It’s always nice to add new books to our reading shelf though. This month, we received three children’s books to review.
God Gave Us You is a board book written by Lisa T. Bergren and illustrated by Laura J. Bryant. It’s no secret that I absolutely LOVE the “God Gave Us” book series and this one is no exception. The colors and illustrations are beautiful and the message is touching even to me. I love reading this book to my children because it is all so true. I’m so thankful that God gave me both of my children and that’s exactly what Mama Bear tells her cub in this sweet story.
“When a charming polar bear cub climbs into bed one night, she asks her Mama a very important question–one that little “human cubs” often wonder about, too: “Where did I come from?”
As Mama bear tucks her youngest cub under the quilts, she gently, tenderly, and reassuringly communicates the message loving parents everywhere (bears and non-bears alike) want their little ones to hear: “We wanted you very, very much, and we are so very glad because–“God gave us you.”
Perfect for bedtime, naptime, story time or anytime, God Gave Us You provides a valuable opportunity to build children’s self-esteem every day and assure each one that he or she truly is a welcomed, precious, and treasured gift from the Lord.”
You can purchase the God Gave Us You board book at Amazon for $6.99.
Bryson is a big Dinosaur Train fan, so the Let’s Go to Volcano Valley board book is right up his alley. This book is fun to read because there are over 40 flaps to lift. I wouldn’t suggest this book for naptime, because there’s a lot to explore and see. It keeps Bryson engaged because he can spot the flaps while I’m reading then we open them to see what’s behind them. If you have a Dinosaur Train (or just dinosaurs in general) fan, this would be perfect!
“Get ready to board the Dinosaur Train and meet some new friends! Buddy, the adorable preschooler Tyrannosaurus Rex, and this adoptive Pteranodon family are always on the move. Today, they are going to Volcano Valley. Along the way, the train is making stops at the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous stations to make dozens of dinosaur discoveries. With more than 40 flaps to lift, kids will want to explore Buddy’s world again and again!”
The Dinosaur Train Let’s Go to Volcano Valley board book is available at Amazon for $9.99.
Mr. Biggs in the City is written and illustrated by Kevin Bloomfield. This is such a vibrant and fun read. The artwork is fabulous and the story is easy to read. This book holds Bryson’s interest all the way through and that’s saying A LOT. You get to follow Mr. Biggs to the city and watch as he tries to fit in He soon realizes that he’s too big to do the things he wants and it’s no fun. It has a happy ending though!
“Mr. Biggs is a very curious Sasquatch who has huge feet and an even bigger heart. He climbs to the top of the tallest tree in all of the forest, and spots a city.
Join Mr. Biggs on his journey as he tried to shred on a skateboard, jam in a rock band, twirl in a ballet tutu and much, much more. Will the giant Mr. Biggs find out that he fits in the city… or is he just too big?
Mr. Biggs in the City is a hilarious and heartwarming story for both the young and young at heart, with vividly wacky illustrations that will make you laugh out loud with every turn of the page.”
Mr. Biggs in the City is currently on sale for $11.86 at Amazon.
