The weatherman says it’s spring and while technically that is true, it sure doesn’t seem like spring in Alabama! I’m impatiently waiting for the days where we can spend endless hours enjoying the sunshine.
Last summer was cut short for me after I broke my leg and ankle. As much as I hurt physically from my injuries and surgery, I was also crushed that I could no longer take the kids outside or do anything fun with them. I wasn’t able to walk or swim or play on the playground. I could not even take them outside at our own home, because I had no way to help them or keep up with their boundless energy. I knew I was missing out and it hurt badly. Justin took the kids to see their first live show, he took them swimming and to birthday parties, and I couldn’t do any of that. I am so thankful that he is the dad that he is so even though I missed out, our children didn’t.
So, this year? Oh, this summer. My mind is swirling with fun ideas, things to do, places to go, sunshine, and smiles. And NO broken bones. We have a new water slide to test out as soon as it’s warm enough. I want our days to be full and relaxed at the same time, if that makes sense. Weekends spent a the river, riding on Pop’s boat, fishing, and sitting by a campfire. Weekdays spent playground hopping, checking them all out, visiting splash pads on the unbearably hot days. Library trips when we can’t handle the heat any longer.
For our days spent on the go and outdoors, I’ll turn to simple foods that are easy to eat on the go and to keep us going. We can pack a small cooler to take to the playground with us packed with fruit, crackers, cheese, etc. You’ll find me snacking away on Quaker®’s new Big Chewy Granola Bars which we recently had the opportunity to try. The Chocolate Chip bars were so good and they have no high fructose corn syrup. I’ve started making my own granola bars, but these are great to have on hand, just in case. They taste great and aren’t messy, so they’ll be exactly what I want to keep on hand while we are busy this summer.
I never know what my days will have in store for me and my family, so keeping Quaker® Big Chewy Granola Bars on hand help make sure we have the fuel necessary to get the day. Now the Quaker® Big Chewy Granola Bars have chocolate drizzled on top and are 60% bigger – perfect for my hungry family!
