Make Family Time Creative and Fun with Morphology

Growing up, I remember sitting around the kitchen table playing board games with my parents.   When Justin and I started dating, we would play cards with his aunt and uncle weekly.  I’ve always enjoyed playing games and it makes for great time spent together.  In some cases, you learn that some people are sore losers, haha.  Bryson doesn’t exactly “get” board games yet, but he likes to make up his own games with the pieces.  Morphology is a fun game and while it’s recommended for ages 13 and up, I think it’s perfect for working with preschool-aged children and above.

What comes in the game?

  • 1 barrel
  • 8 wooden sticks
  • 2 black circles
  • 16 glass beads
  • 20 cubes
  • 4 wooden people
  • 1 string
  • 1 times
  • 4 team frogs
  • 1 die
  • Morphology board

How do you play?

  1. Divide into teams.
  2. Draw a word from the deck.
  3. Use the shapes and pieces to create the word.
  4. Get your teammates to guess within the allotted time.
  5. If you guess correctly, move your team frog forward one lily pas.  The first team to reach the finish line wins.

The best part is that there are so many ways  you can switch it up and make it more interesting and fun.  Some suggestions are to build the word with your eyes closed or build using only the string.   To play with younger children, you could simply tell them the word and allow them to build with whatever they choose.  It’s fun to watch their imagination at work and see what they come up with!

You can purchase Morphology at Amazon.com.  It is currently priced at $24.75.  Follow Morphology on Twitter and “Like” Morphology on Facebook to stay updated.  They sometimes offer giveaways too, so be sure to look out for those!
