Even with Christmas in the rear view, I still want to celebrate the season with some fun winter preschool crafts. Bryson doesn’t sit still for long, so I look for quick crafts that don’t call for a lot of supplies. I saw something similar to this on Pinterest, so we added our own details and the end result is super cute.
You’ll need some miniature marshmallows, pipecleaners, pompoms or buttons, background paper, eyes, something to draw with, and glue. If you want, use cotton balls instead of marshmallows. We enjoyed having a snack while crafting, just make sure the kids don’t try to eat the marshmallows that have glue on them!
Here is how we made him:
- I drew three circles with glue and Bryson placed the marshmallows along the circles. Well, honestly, he did the head then decided he’d rather eat, so I finished Mr. Snowman’s body.
- Next, I added three dots of glue on Mr. Snowman’s belly and Bryson placed the pom-poms on him.
- Two more dots of glue for his eyes, then one for his nose, and Bryson added the details.
- Glitter fabric paint for his mouth. You could use a marker or crayon.
- Twist two pipe-cleaners together to make a scarf them glue it down. Hot glue works best here, I couldn’t get ours to stay put with regular glue.
- Finally, I put dabs of paint on Bryson’s fingertips and let him make fingerprint snowflakes around Mr. Snowman.
I think Mr. Snowman turned out quite fabulous and I’m glad that Bryson enjoyed the process. It’s rare that I can get him to focus on a craft from start to finish, but this was a success. Maybe the snacking on marshmallows helped!

We received some of the supplies used in this craft from the folks at CraftProjectIdeas.com. All thoughts & opinions expressed are my own, as always.
What a cute craft idea! I love when my girls bring home stuff like this from school!
This is cute and looks fun.
Too cute! How did you keep your kids from eating the marshmallows? My kids them for crafts and think they have to eat them. aye!
I would have to buy extra marshmallows to do this craft. JDaniel would need some to snack on.
That’s a cute project. We are always looking for cool stuff like that to do with the kids.

what about using the marshmallow snowman for a dessert craft? Could you use the squeeze icing in a tube to “draw” the snowman on a red solo plate, then place the marshmallows on; could use raisins for eyes, licorice for mouth, etc. That way the kids could prepare their craft for dessert for a Christmas get together, then everyone could enjoy them later.
